Petro-Canada actively supports business development to increase local capacity, particularly in areas where the Company has long-term operational commitments.
Aboriginal Contractors (Suppliers)
We are committed to using Aboriginal suppliers on the basis of price competitiveness, health and safety considerations, environmental compliance, quality, timeliness and terms of delivery.
Retail Service Stations
Petro-Canada encourages First Nations entrepreneurs to open retail service stations. Currently, there are nine retail locations on reserves and a number of others are being discussed for locations across Canada.
Fuel Distribution Business
Petro-Canada developed Petro-Nor in northern Quebec, where we worked with regional James Bay Cree communities to build a successful fuel distribution business that serves the entire James Bay territory.
Halfway River First Nation Gravel Resource
Petro-Canada supported an MBA student who completed a business case for the Halfway River First Nation to develop an on-reserve gravel resource. The community is now marketing its high quality product at competitive rates, bringing employment and economic benefits into the community.
Deliné and the K'ahsho Got'iné
Petro-Canada has entered into Access and Benefits Agreements with Deliné and the K'ahsho Got'iné, two communities in the Northwest Territories. Such agreements provide funding to the communities for business development and encourage Aboriginal businesses to actively participate in contracting opportunities, opening the way for Petro-Canada to conduct exploration activities.
