Business Conduct Hotline

Employees are encouraged to report financial irregularities, suspected fraud, and any suspected violations of the Business Code of Conduct, the Policy for the Prevention of Improper Payments, or any applicable laws or regulations to their supervisor or the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) in order that we can take immediate corrective action.

However, sometimes such discussions can cause discomfort or fears of retaliation. In such instances, employees are advised to report business conduct situations through Petro-Canada’s confidential ethics hotline, which is available worldwide 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This hotline is operated by an independent firm. Petro-Canada employees are assured they will not face retaliation of any kind because of reporting any information, in good faith, to superiors or to appropriate government agencies regarding conduct that the employee reasonably believes violates the Code or any applicable governmental laws and regulations.

Callers are asked to describe their concerns and the operator asks questions to create an actionable report. Callers may remain anonymous and no information that could identify the caller is provided without consent. At this point:

  • a report, protecting the caller’s confidentiality, is provided to Petro-Canada’s CCO
  • reports related to audit or accounting issues are simultaneously provided to the Chair of the Audit, Finance and Risk Committee of Petro-Canada’s Board of Directors
  • reports on other matters are simultaneously provided to the Vice-President, Human Resources
  • in an urgent situation, Petro-Canada Security may also be advised

These officials are required to respond within a specified period — from 48 hours to one month — depending on the priority recommended by the third-party operator.
