One of the things that Suncor has done to build the potential labour pool for our operations is educate women about opportunities in the mining industry.
In May 2008, Suncor participated in Canadian Institute of Mining national conference in Edmonton, highlighting career options in the oil sands to local female high school students. A team of young female Suncor employees were part of a session that showed the mining industry as an exciting and fulfilling place for young women to start their careers.
The two-hour session, with a daytime talk show format (inspired by The View), was fast-moving, featuring presentations, video, live conversations and audience interaction. The presentation was well-received by the students and positive feedback was received by school guidance counselors.
