At Suncor, we believe people who contribute to our success should share in the rewards—both monetary and non-monetary. We take a "total rewards" approach that includes compensation, benefits, career development, and wellness programs to support work-life commitments. Part of our merger work has been to integrate our HR programs for the new Suncor and this process continues in 2010.
Our competitive benefits include comprehensive health care plans, competitive pension and savings plans, and generous time off—all in a flexible package that can be adjusted to suit the changing needs of our employees and their families.
Compensation. Our compensation program is designed to “pay for performance.” It’s what you would expect to see in any large corporation—a mix of base salary, annual incentives, equity-based incentives, recognition and various allowances. Suncor offers a competitive rate of base salary as well as opportunities for annual salary increases and annual incentives tied to Suncor’s and the employee’s performance. Our compensation structure is benchmarked with the industry to remain competitive.
Benefits. Suncor’s benefits package is an important part of our total rewards picture. It includes flexible health and insurance benefits options and a health spending account. The flexible nature of our plans means our employees personalize their benefits package to suit their needs. Suncor also offers competitive and flexible pension and savings plans, as well as a number of quality-of-life benefit programs to help employees achieve success at work and home.
It’s not all about work. With our increasingly demanding lifestyles, many employees are looking for programs that help achieve success at work and at home.
Suncor employees receive generous paid vacation time, which ranges from three to six weeks per year, depending on years of service and experience level. In addition to vacation days and holidays, eligible employees also receive 15 “personal time off days,” which are intended to give employees extra time for doctor appointments, family activities or the ability to pursue personal interests.
All Suncor employees have access to a free and confidential Employee and Family Assistance Program and educational assistance funding for courses relevant to work.
With at least one year of continuous employment on June 30, the Suncor scholarship program provides funding for qualifying dependents attending university or college. Awards are granted annually for up to four years or until the first degree or diploma is received.
Suncor encourages community involvement by providing financial contributions to non-profit and charitable organizations supported by employees, including bereavement, volunteer and fundraising grants, as well as matching grants to post-secondary institutions and humanitarian relief.
We also add to our employees’ bottom line by providing the opportunity to receive a 5% employee discount on fuel, convenience store items, car washes and car repairs purchased at Petro-Canada and Certigard retail locations in Canada.
