St. Clair Ethanol Plant

St. Clair Ethanol plant, Canada's largest ethanol plant, opened in 2006 and is operated by Suncor. In previous years environmental data from the St. Clair Ethanol Plant was included in the Refining and Marketing Canadian operations. This historical data has been removed from the Refining and Marketing business unit and stated here for comparability purposes.

A	Total gross production refers to ethanol production from Suncor's ethanol plant, converted to cubic meters of oil equivalent.
B	Energy consumption and GHG includes natural gas fueling for process heat and the import of electrical power.
C	Direct energy is energy consumed onsite by Suncor operated facilities. Indirect energy includes imported electricity, steam, heating and cooling duty from third parties.
D	Spills that enter the St. Clair River directly, or spills into collection systems that exceed downstream treatment capabilities and result in the release of substances into the St. Clair River.

1	This data is included in the Energy, Supply, Training and Development business unit. All information is rolled into Suncor-Wide values.
G	A lost-time injury requires medical attention and results in an employee being absent from work on the next regularly scheduled work day or any subsequent work day. Lost-time injury frequency is the number of such injuries per 200,000 hours worked.
H	Recordable injuries include lost time injuries as well as medical aid injuries. Medical aid injuries require medical attentions but do not result in an employee being absent from work. Recordable injury frequency is the sum of lost time and medical aid injuries per 200,000 hours worked.
I	Includes the educational assistance plan that reimburses tuition upon successful completion of a course or program.
