In 2012, Suncor continued to make authentic connections with the right, qualified candidates in a variety of ways. Our 'Go ahead' campaign features 23 current champions — Suncor employees who appear in print and digital recruitment ads, and share in their own words what it's like to work here. The employees work in different areas of the company and represent the diversity of Suncor's workforce.

Through this campaign, we connect with thousands of people across Canada and even further afield at international networking events and job fairs. We are also building a following on our online social media sites, including our website, Facebook careers pages, Twitter and our biggest success to date — LinkedIn — where more than 40,000 people are following Suncor and connecting to hear about employment opportunities with us. We know we have to look at new and innovative approaches to meet future recruitment needs, so we consider every alternative to help us cost-effectively bring the best and brightest talent to our doorstep.
As another example, we share an authentic Suncor experience to potential candidates through the promotion of goaheadfortmac.ca, which invites qualified prospective candidates to 'Go ahead, Expect great' and take a virtual tour of the community.
The site works to showcase this close-knit community and its urban amenities while dispelling myths about the region. It aims to draw the right potential candidates to consider relocation and apply online to job openings.

In 2012, we enhanced how we process referrals from employees to ensure these resumes are reviewed by the right hiring areas in the organization in a timely manner. We know that referrals are often the best match of skills, capability and values for our organization, so our employee referral program is designed to encourage referrals and reward employees who help us find a successful match.

To maintain a comprehensive view of our recruitment needs, Human Resources works closely with Corporate Strategic Planning, Finance and our operating areas to understand business priorities and corresponding workforce needs. By understanding where our company is headed, we are able to help improve business outcomes by planning for ebbs and flows in recruitment demand and supply. Our strategy is to continue to focus our efforts on finding and retaining the right people, at the right place, at the right time, with the right values to help us deliver on our business strategies and objectives.
We use an integrated workforce planning process, which identifies the skills and capabilities required across the company in the coming years. This positions us to strategically recruit a balance of mid-career employees, who can contribute immediately as well as new graduates, whose ability to contribute will develop and mature.
